Our Refinishing Process
- Remove old caulking.
- Make sure all surfaces are clean on porcelain tubs before acid etching. (Fiberglass tubs are sanded.)
- Before etching begins, we apply protecting product for better adherence and to prevent peeling.
- Let all surfaces dry.
- Mark chips and apply fiberglass filler.
- Sand any fiberglass areas.
- Mask the area to protect from excessive spraying.
- Set up an exhaust fan for drying and fumes. We add a heat lamp during cold weather to aid the process.
- Tack the surface to remove dust particles.
- Spray a two-part epoxy primer used especially for tub refinishing. The chemical makeup makes it bond better to porcelain.
- Let primer dry for a short time.
- Apply the final three coatings with drying time between each coat. We spray three coats of a two-part high solids urethane allowing drying time between coats.
- When dry, the tape is removed and the tub edges are caulked.
